0 comments Posted by Brief History at 5:33 PTGThis year marks a new era for pupils' in schools. With old head prefects gone to year 7, new prefects were elected, election was based on pupils' attitude and behavior in school and since last year, teachers and pupils' alike knew who was next in line to hold the head prefect badge. The head prefect this year is Md. Syafiq bin Hilmy and he will be assisted by Farah Humairah.Photo shot 2009 prefects with GB

It's that time of the season where teachers' get together and cheer for their school, it's football season. Although we had a rough time with flash floods, which meant that football practice had to be put on hold for almost a week. Even so, practice before the flash flood starts was actually enough for us. We kick start with a tough game against Sekolah Rendah Rambai. First half wasn't a good start as we trail by 2goals to nil, it was during the 2nd half that we were able to change the complexion of the game to win 3-2
Unfortunately, our good fortunes didn't last in the next round. SR Tumpuan Telisai was the team to beat but with statistics against us, we went out to cause an upset but found ourselves trailing by 3 goals to nil with a penalty miss in the first half. The second half shows some improvements in our game but we didn't show the same hunger as we showed against SR Rambai. Full time SR Tumpuan Telisai 4, SR layong 1
After a rather eventful week, with the flash floods and His Majesty's visit, school continues as usual on 12th of February. An activity was conducted by teachers to demonstrate the use of a life jacket in times of emergencies. Our school has been well equipped with life jackets and life buoys, briefings had been done before today but it is for the benefit for our children to get their minds refreshed about the do's and don'ts' when it comes to safety. What is Cg Razak doing you might wonder? He is not going to jump into the water but rather a demonstration to show that a life buoy should be shared not to be used alone.
Cg Razak uses his experiences to teach pupils' how it's done.
Siti Miasarah(behind) and Md Syazwan, two of our school models for demonstrations of how to use a life jacket.
A rather enthusiastic Cg Hjh Salwana to teach pupils' the use of a whistle within the life jacket itself.
Cg. Hjh Salwana and Cg. Mariani showing the two different types of life jackets that our school is being provided.
Pupils' and teachers' alike looking forward towards the demonstration. Cg. Masnoriani seems excited.
On 10th January 2009, His Majesty visited Tutong. The purpose of his visit was to visit victims of flash floods and landslides, apart from visiting homes of victims, His Majesty also visited schools and this included SR Layong. His Majesty's visit shows how much he is concern about his citizens' welfare. His Majesty arrived in a blue Pajero and teachers' in SR Layong rushed to the main entrance to greet His Majesty's arrival.
His Majesty's visit was greeted with joy by teachers at SR Layong.
Our GB (Cg. Kasim Bin Hj Marsal) show his Majesty around the school.
His Majesty also asked questions concerning children's studies.
We might be few in numbers but the way we work has always been TEAMWORK....
Water. It is something that we depend on, it is useful for our daily use but is this a blessing or a curse? Since 4th January 2009, 5 schools were affected by the worse flood since 1962, this also included SR Layong. Teachers and pupils' found it hard to go to school not only with the strong current but also due to crocodiles lurking around the flooded areas. Teachers were only able to go in after 4days, ways to go in? Climbing the pipeline and walking through the waters.Water levels rising as heavy rain goes on.
Fire fighters as well as soldiers on stand by due to the flooding around Layong.
The second time floods reach the main entrance of school only this time it's with strong current.
The route towards SR Layong were also effected causing massive absentees of teachers and pupils' alike.
Many properties were damaged due to the flood, one of the wood dispatched due to the strong current.
Seeing is believing, experiencing is way beyond imaging.
Most teachers say that this years flooding has to be the worse in history and certainly for some an experience to remember.
